Job Description:
In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct
ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that
successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN has acquired
the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery
in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical "Oko"
gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.To ensure the
achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is
looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the
position of:Environmental OfficerAn Environmental Officer is
responsible for executing Policies, Plans and Programmes under the
Environmental Management System. The Environmental Officer is also
responsible for monitoring the project's compliance with local laws
and regulations governing environmental protection and providing
guidance on improving compliance wherever there is a deficiency.
The Environmental Officer also provides input in developing and
executing various programme areas such as Energy Management,
Biodiversity, Emergency Response, etc.Key Responsibilities
- Provide assistance for the development and implementation of
Environmental Policies, Programmes and plans
- Provide input on short to medium term planning for the
department
- Supervise and plan daily work schedule for Environmental
Technicians
- Provide support to other functions within the department
- Provide support for external audits
- Coordinate monitoring activities (Water Quality, Air, Noise,
Vibrations, Biodiversity)
- Conduct basic troubleshooting and maintenance on monitoring
equipment
- Conduct basic water quality testing
- Manage Waste Management Programme
- Compile reports (internal and external)
- Develop and advance department training programme
- Maintain department records
- Conduct sitewide Environmental Inspections
- Coordinate with external laboratories for testing services
- Problem-solving skills to develop plans of action related to
conservation and emergency response
- Participate in stakeholder engagement sessions
- Take part in public outreach to educate the public on project
advancement and conservation effortsQualifications/Skills and
Experience
- Minimum First Degree in Natural Sciences or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in an Environmental related position or
project
- Previous experience in the mining industry would be an
asset
- Fluent in English
- Willingness to work in a remote location
- Advanced computer skills
- Analytical skills to understand the results of scientific
testing
- Problem-solving skills to develop plans of action related to
conservation and emergency response
- Ability to move safely over rough, uneven terrain and to travel
over long distances
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills to educate
the public, collaborate with coworkers and compile reports
- Developed cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate off-road
vehicleWorking Conditions
- Position based at the OKO Project site - Fly-in/Fly-out
- Work Schedule - 28 days on/14 days off
