for team meetings and professional development.ABOUT THE ROLE:A
Legislative Director may serve as the lead staff person helping
state legislators develop policy on state-federal matters,
including workforce and economic development. This position
requires substantial knowledge in state-federal policy,
independence, initiative, and political sensitivity. The position
reports to the vice president of state-federal relations.WHAT
YOU'LL DO:
- Identifies, monitors, analyzes, and interprets congressional
and federal agency actions affecting state governments.
- Writes clear, accurate informational and lobbying documents for
various audiences.
- Provides information and assistance to state legislators and
legislative staff.
- Develops, plans, and coordinates relevant programs for the
committee.
- Maintains a network of contacts in the states and among federal
agencies.
- Works effectively in coalitions to promote NCSL positions.
- Develops lobbying strategies and represents state legislative
concerns.
- Coordinates work with other NCSL staff.
- Plays a leadership role on internal task forces.
- Performs other responsibilities as needed.SHARE YOUR

Director may have supervisory responsibilities.THE WORK
ENVIRONMENT: This full-time position is mostly performed in an
office environment, with occasional travel required. Reasonable

disabilities.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS:Minimum
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree plus six years of work experience with state
legislatures or related fields.
- Ability to serve as a subject matter expert in the policy
arena.
- Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with
legislators and staff.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to supervise and lead others.
- Ability to work in a politically neutral manner.
- Ability to travel by air and work extended hours as needed.YOUR
