Position: Associate Director of Choral Music - Coordinate
ProgramOrganizational BackgroundFrom the top of Mount St. Alban,
St. Albans School and National Cathedral School look up to the
Washington National Cathedral and out to the United States Capitol.
St. Albans School was established in 1909 and National Cathedral
School in 1900. Our mission is to prepare students in grades 4

schools.Job DescriptionSt. Albans School (STA) and National
Cathedral School (NCS) are seeking a jointly appointed Associate
Director of Choral Music beginning in Fall 2025.St. Albans looks
for candidates who will immerse themselves in the life of the
school. In supporting the schools' co-educational choral program,
and in close collaboration with music department colleagues, the
well-qualified candidate will:
- Serve as music director for Middle School and Upper School
musicals.
- Lead or assist with choral rehearsals, especially in the Middle
School and Upper School.
- Conduct works at all Middle School and Upper School
performances.
- Organize logistical support for performances in the National
Cathedral, in the community, and on tour.
- Serve as an accompanist as needed.
- Exhibit an ability to teach with imagination and vigor.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues in the department and make
themselves active members of the school community.
- Exhibit strong organizational and classroom management
skills.The position may perform other related duties as assigned.

from assigning duties that are logically related to the

the purposes of management, performance assessment, and span of
control, the Associate Director of Choral Music directly
supervises: NoneProfessional Experience & QualificationsMinimum
Experience: Three years of choral coaching/teaching experience;
keyboard facility; excellent musicianship; experience directing
musicals and conducting youth choral groups.Education: A completed
4-year Degree in a music related field.Certifications: N/APreferred
Qualifications:
- Advanced music/choral degree preferred.
- Strong background as a choral educator; voice training
experience.
- Strong organ experience or other instrumental training.
- Experience teaching at an Independent School preferred.Work

to assuming classroom responsibilities, faculty are expected to
attend the following "command performances": chapel, lunch,
assembly, faculty meetings, back-to-school nights, professional
days, parent dinner receptions, Lessons and Carols, Senior Class
Communion and Breakfast (Upper School only), Prize Day,
Commencement, and opening- and closing-of-school meetings.As a
community, we make the effort to support events in the life of the
school and occasions that celebrate our students and colleagues.
Performances, concerts, exhibitions, faculty and staff social
gatherings, alumni gatherings, athletic contests, and other shared
experiences weave the adults and students of this community
together.Schedule: Ability to work a flexible schedule that is
generally Monday through Friday but will also include
nights/weekends as performance schedules might dictate. Ability to
sit or stand for extended periods of time, ability to move for
extended lengths of time over a sprawling campus.Work Environment:
Generally, work is performed in an indoor climate-controlled
environment but will also include outdoor supervision of students
