Job Description:
General Summary of PositionResponsible for providing
comprehensive care in an ambulatory setting for patients with
neurological conditions. Responsibilities include assessment of
physical and psychosocial needs, patient education, and the
administration of neurological infusion therapies, immunotherapy,
and blood products. The nurse evaluates the patient's response to
interventions and implements appropriate changes and also assist in
symptom management, coordination of internal and external
resources, triaging unexpected patient visits and facilitating
communication between all members of the health care team. These
functions are performed in collaboration with attending physicians
and other clinical personnel in accordance with all applicable
state and local laws and regulations and MedStar Health's policies,
procedures and standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Administers neurological therapies, immunotherapy, and blood
products according to policy and procedure. Obtains blood samples
from Central Venous Access devices according to policy and
procedure.
- Communicates patient's clinical information clearly and
accurately in verbal and written format. Clearly and accurately
documents pertinent information in the patient's medical record.
Consistently demonstrates effective documentation practices and
develops strategies to ensure complete documentation of patient
care.
- Contributes to his/her own professional growth and development
through attendance at national and/or regional conferences, reading
and sharing current literature, and identifying knowledge or skill
needs.
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals
and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures,
quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental
and accreditation regulations.
- Coordinates the day to day operations of the Infusion Center to
include management of clinical schedule and drug delivery with
precertification coordinator and ordering of all supplies.
- Evaluates the patient's response to treatment and progress
toward identified goals and revises plan of care as appropriate in
cooperation with the attending physician. Monitors medical
condition, intervenes using critical thinking, and reports patient
changes to appropriate personnel.
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment of caring for
patients and families. Provides basic patient comfort measures
during procedures. Identifies and acts upon opportunities to
improve the environment of care.
- Operates Infusion unit equipment, instruments, and supplies as
well as standard office equipment including computers for records
and reports.
- Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service
improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves
on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility
in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Provides direct patient care and evaluates outcomes, based on
assessment of physical, emotional, biophysical and spiritual needs.
Analyzes the patients' lab work, medications, and activities and
confers with physicians on any changes.
- Provides the patient and family/significant other with
information (oral, written, or audio-visual) regarding diagnosis
treatment, potential side effects, symptom management, and
resources available within and outside MedStar Health. This may be
face-to-face or via telephone.
- Serves as resource in planning care for complex patients.
Initiates and monitors discharge planning activities in
collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Takes the
lead in facilitating timely discharge.

Minimum Qualifications Education
- Valid RN license in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and
Maryland depending on location required and
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
Experience
- 1-2 years 2 years RN experience with at least 1 year
administering infusion treatments required
Licenses and Certifications
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP)
for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association
(AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department
or business unit. and
- CRNI - Certified Registered Nurse Infusion Certification in
Infusion nursing preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated high level of clinical competence.
- Effective interpersonal skills, including verbal and written
communication.
- Basic math skills.
- Basic computer skills.
This position has a hiring range of $87,318 - $157,289
