About GW Hospital's ICU UnitsThe George Washington University
Hospital offers a range of highly specialized Intensive Care Units
(ICUs), designed to meet the critical needs of patients requiring
advanced medical care. Each unit is equipped with cutting-edge
technology and staffed by a multidisciplinary team of highly
trained professionals, including intensivists, nurses, and support
staff.
- Capacity: 20 beds.
- Patient Focus: Specializes in the treatment of patients with
severe medical conditions such as respiratory failure, sepsis, and
multi-organ dysfunction.
- Special Services: Provides advanced respiratory support,
continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), and close hemodynamic
monitoring.
- Surgical ICU (SICU)
- Capacity: 12 beds.
- Patient Focus: Post-operative care for patients recovering from
trauma, organ transplants, and complex surgical interventions.
- Special Services: Emphasizes intensive monitoring,
post-surgical recovery support, and life support for critically
injured or post-surgery patients.
- Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)
- Capacity: 15 beds.

care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit.

and interpret vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and other relevant
data. Respond promptly to changes in patient status.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary
team, including physicians, respiratory therapists, and other
healthcare professionals, to ensure comprehensive and effective
patient care.
- Critical Thinking: Apply advanced critical thinking skills in
assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care
plans for complex medical conditions.
- Advocacy: Serve as an advocate for patients and their families,
providing emotional support and ensuring their needs are met
throughout the care journey.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records,
including nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Education: Provide patient and family education on medical
conditions, treatment plans, and post-discharge care.
- Quality Improvement: Actively participate in quality
improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and contribute
to the ongoing improvement of nursing practices within the ICU.
Qualifications
- DC RN License, or eligibility
- Critical Care experience: 1 year full time experience or 2
years part time experience
- BLS
- ACLS
