General Summary of Position
Are you an experienced nurse looking for an opportunity to formally
lead? The Assistant Nursing Director role is a great position that
allows you to remain close to the bedside but allows you to serve
as a front-line nurse leader. MedStar Health is seeking a dedicated
and engaged Assistant Nursing Director to lead Units C4-1(Medicine)
& C4-2 (Medicine/Tele/ Behavioral Health). As a member of our
Division of Nursing's (DON) leadership/management team, you will
play a pivotal role in shaping the future of patient care in this
specialized field.
Position Overview
In collaboration with the Nursing Directors the Assistant Nursing
Director is responsible for the leadership and management of Units
C4-1 & C4-2 at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. The
Assistant Nursing Director fosters associates commitment to
improving quality, safety, and cost-conscious patient care
outcomes. This role offers the chance to direct and coordinate the
nursing and patient care delivery of the unit-based professional
and support personnel. As a nursing leader, you will promote an
environment that aligns with the Division of Nursing and MedStar
Health's mission, vision, and values.
Unit Highlights
General Medicine (C4-1) This 16- unit is designed to provide care
for patients who have complex medical diagnoses. Nurses on this
unit provide care for a diverse patient population with a wide
range of healthcare needs. Representatives from this unit are also
involved in the implementation of the Nurses Improving Care for
Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) Program that has expanded throughout
the Division of Nursing and achieved Exemplar Status. The unit
utilizes a blended model of care, which encompasses a team
perspective with nurses, patient care technicians and a virtual
nurse. The model is to ensure each team member is collaboratively
performing the fullest extent of their scope of care.
General Medicine/Telemetry and Behavioral Health Unit (C4-2) C4-2
is a 16-bed unit designed to provide specialized care for patients
who need continuous cardiac monitoring, behavioral health, and
complex medical nursing care. Our entire staff is committed to the
MedStar Georgetown mission of cura personalis,or caring for the
whole person. The nursing team on Unit C4-2 are supported with
educational and specialty certification training opportunities.
Professional development initiatives and leadership support
empowers these nurses to become active and respected participants
within the inter-professional team that provides evidence based,
compassionate care to our patients. The unit utilizes a blended
model of care, which encompasses a team-based perspective and
treatment approach using nurses, patient care technicians and a
virtual nurse.
Key Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Nurse Director, develops department
goals, objectives and ensures compliance with hospital policy and
procedure, clinical practice, guidelines, and regulatory and
accreditation standards.
Provides shift-based clinical leadership through role modeling
professional practice behaviors, proper delegation of activities,
and management of the nursing team and promotes unit activities
that enhance department satisfaction an engagement.
Collaborate with the nursing leadership team, Medical Staff, and
leaders of other departments/disciplines to ensure seamless patient
care.
Participates in patient rounding to review patient status and
connect with patient and family.
Collaborates with the Nursing Director in the hiring, evaluation,
promotion, and termination of personnel within the department as
needed and initiates coaching and counseling of associates.
Maintains clinical knowledge and skills and engages in the
provision of direct care for a caseload of patients as
required.
Assumes administrative responsibilities in absence of the director
and as needed provides coverage for other colleagues.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in nursing
DC RN License
Approximately three to four years of progressively more responsible
job-related experience
2+ years of Medical/ Surgical Nursing Experience preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
