In support of this mission, the GWSB Undergraduate Programs Office is searching for an Assistant Director, Undergraduate Advising.The purpose of the GWSB Undergraduate Programs office is to educate and empower students throughout their academic journey by focusing on holistic student development and prioritizing student learning in academic advising, the Business Leader Development (BLD) Program, and co-curricular learning initiatives with a core aspiration of developing forward-thinking and inclusive business leaders.This individual serves on the GWSB Undergraduate Programs leadership team and is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the undergraduate programs team, collaborating with cross-functional teams to support student success from admission through graduation, providing direct academic advising to students, supervising staff, and managing marketing, communications, and administrative functions. This position reports to the Executive Director of Undergraduate Programs and supervises one professional staff member, two graduate student employees, and three undergraduate student employees.The primary responsibilities for the Assistant Director, Undergraduate Advising include:Organizational Leadership and Staff Supervision:
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise staff, including a Student Services Specialist, half-time graduate student employees (Communications & Marketing Assistant, Administrative Assistant), and undergraduate student employees (two Communication Assistants and one Administrative Assistant).
- Evaluate staff performance, manage daily operations, and oversee front desk management, including training, scheduling, and administrative functions for smooth operations.
- Serve as one of two Advising Team Leads in the Executive Director's absence.
- Collaborate with the Leadership Team to design and deliver staff training programs, aligning professional development with institutional goals.
- Approve timecards for direct supervisees and all hourly student employees across GWSB Undergraduate Programs, including Academic Advising, Marketing & Communications, and Co-Curricular Learning staff.
- Coordinate assessment initiatives within Academic Advising to
evaluate effectiveness and implement improvements.Office Operations
and Compliance Management:
- Lead operations onboarding logistics for staff in GWSB Undergraduate Programs, managing office setup, phones, keys, tap access, and other onboarding needs.
- Coordinate with the GW Office of Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy to ensure records compliance and privacy standards are maintained.
- Organize and index student paperwork within GW Documents for easy accessibility and retrieval.
- Work closely with GWSB Operations, Housekeeping, and GWIT/GWSB IT to address office needs, including technology and facility-related requests.
- Manage office inventory (technology, office supplies) and ensure timely ordering and replenishment of supplies, while maintaining organization of storage spaces (closets, cabinets, etc.).
- Serve as the Floor/Safety Warden for GWSB Undergraduate Programs, coordinating with GWSB Operations on safety procedures and matters.
- Lead the development and implementation of a strategic communications plan for GWSB Undergraduate Programs, including vision, assessment, content calendar, and branding guidelines, ensuring compliance with institutional brand standards in collaboration with GWSB and GW Marketing & Communications.
- Manage day-to-day marketing and communications functions, including project management, development of Standard Operating Procedures, and oversight of social media channels (Instagram, LinkedIn), as well as the creation and execution of campaigns.
- Oversee the GWSB Undergraduate Programs MyEMMA account, handling direct mailers (newsletters, program updates) and communication outreach for course registration, academic advising, and faculty/student reminders.
- Partner with the Assistant Director, Co-Curricular Learning to advise the Undergraduate Business Association Vice President of Marketing and manage newsletter distribution.
- Coordinate the development and updates of marketing materials (print, digital, monitors) and lead the annual report creation, including assessment and editing.
- Work with the Leadership Team to ensure timely updates to the
GWSB Undergraduate Programs website.Academic Advising and Student
Support:
- Provide academic advising services to a caseload of undergraduate students, guiding them through course selection, academic planning, and program requirements.
- Oversee advising services for GWSB students from prospective students to alumni, ensuring high-quality support and adherence to program policies.
- Research and resolve escalated student complaints related to academic advising.
- Coordinate the assessment initiatives for academic advising, including tracking student engagement, and prepare regular reports for the Leadership Team.
- Research, resolve, and respond to escalated complaints from students and parents.
- Although this role does not include formal teaching as a
requirement, it is strongly preferred that this position maintains
a semesterly teaching appointment with the BLD
Program.Undergraduate Admissions:
- Coordinate with the GW Office of Undergraduate Admissions on GWSB Undergraduate Programs initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with the Senior Academic Advisor to lead the strategy and planning for Inside GW admissions initiatives, including recruiting speakers/panelists and managing events. Oversee the development, review, and execution of GWSB Tours as part of these initiatives, and work alongside the Undergraduate Business Association and the Senior Academic Advisor on the UBA Tour Guide Program and related efforts.
- Audit incoming student numbers for first-year and
internal/external transfer students, providing weekly admissions
updates to the Leadership Team during the summer to assess impacts
on course enrollment, scheduling, orientation, and the Business
Leader Development Program.New Student Onboarding and
Communications:
- Coordinate with the GW New Student Orientation office on GWSB Undergraduate Programs initiatives, including the development and implementation of orientation modules, communication efforts, and marketing (e.g., COMEVO/POOM, Family Connections, Resource Guide, and website updates).
- Lead the scheduling and delivery of First-Year Group Advising Webinars, Registration Preparation Drop-ins, and registration support for fall and spring admits, including SLU-Madrid and UK Scholars Program students.
- Conduct communication outreach to incoming first-year and transfer students (internal and external) via Salesforce, covering key topics like welcome messages, webinars, registration preparation, and ALEKS placement information.
- Partner with the Program Associate for Student Leadership and
Engagement to manage logistics and implementation of the August NSO
Academic School Session and host an abbreviated session for spring
admits.GWSB Undergraduate Commencement:
- Serve as the GWSB Undergraduate Programs liaison to Graduation Services in the GW Office of the Registrar and represent GWSB on the Commencement Committee, participating in the selection of student speakers.
- Provide graduation data to GWSB Operations upon request, and review graduation and awards programs, along with the commencement ceremony script.
- Coordinate logistics and training for the GWSB Undergraduate Programs team during commencement ceremonies and recruit volunteers from the team for the GWSB Soiree.
- Develop and send a "Countdown to Commencement" direct mailer series to seniors, which includes academic advising communications from application to ceremony.
- Lead the graduation clearance process, overseeing application
reviews, degree completion certification, and notifying students
who do not meet graduation requirements, while liaising with the
Office of the Registrar on complex graduation issues.Committee
Representation:
- Represent GWSB Undergraduate Advising on university-wide
committees regarding advising technology (e.g., CRM Advisory Board
Meetings, Calendly, Salesforce), registration, new student
orientation, publications (e.g., website), commencement, and other
efforts.Perform other work-related duties as assigned. The omission
of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning
duties that are logically related to the position.Minimum
Qualifications:Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree
in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant
professional experience, or a Master's degree or higher in a
relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional
experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the
position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent
combination of education, training, and experience.Additional

- Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and judgments in analyzing and evaluating student data and academic records.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience in public presentations, fostering engagement with diverse audiences.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet demanding deadlines while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
- Proficient in Google Suite, Banner, Degree Works, Salesforce, Microsoft Office, and Blackboard.
- Knowledge and experience in effective academic advising techniques, with the ability to assess students' needs and facilitate informed decision-making.
- Experience in developing and implementing co-curricular
