West Sound Academy is establishing a new position to support the mission of the School by promoting and developing a culture of excellence, open-mindedness, international-mindedness, integrity, collaboration, and inquiry among faculty, staff, parents, and students.Who we are:West Sound Academy is an independent school for grades 6-12 built to inspire students to embark on a learning journey that ignites their curiosity and encourages them to make their own unique impact in the world. Located in the heart of Kitsap County, on a rural 20-acre campus, the school offers a hands-on and creative curriculum with small class sizes that attracts students from all around the globe to learn and grow together.Our curriculum at each grade level is aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) program which aims to provide an education that crosses disciplinary, cultural, national, and geographical boundaries and that champions critical engagement, stimulating ideas, and meaningful relationships.Through deep engagement and inquiry, our students gain the skills and dispositions needed to make sense of the world around them and take responsible action for the future. We know that learning is a journey, not a formula to be followed. That is why we strive to create educational experiences that support each student. Rather than teaching students how to recite facts and adhere to formulaic standards of academic achievement, we strive to teach students to think critically and leverage their knowledge to excel in college and anywhere else life takes them next.Job Summary:The Director of Teaching and Learning at West Sound Academy is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the school's academic programs for grades 6 through 12.This position ensures that the curriculum aligns with WSA's mission to graduate accomplished, creative, and intellectually curious young adults prepared to contribute responsibly to the world. The director will lead initiatives to enhance instructional practices, support faculty development, and uphold the standards of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. This position will join a faculty and administration of 18 and report to the Head of School.Key Responsibilities:Curriculum Development and Alignment

  • Lead accreditation and evaluation processes, ensuring compliance with accrediting organizations.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of WSA's curriculum, ensuring alignment with IB standards and the school's mission.
  • Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of the curriculum across all grade levels and subject areas.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate inquiry-based learning, creativity, and real-world application into the curriculum.Instructional Leadership
    • Provide guidance and support to teachers in adopting effective instructional strategies that cater to diverse learning styles.
    • Conduct regular classroom observations and offer constructive feedback to promote continuous improvement.
    • Lead professional development sessions focused on innovative teaching practices and IB methodologies.Faculty Development
      • Mentor and support faculty in their professional growth, fostering a culture of lifelong learning.
      • Facilitate collaborative planning sessions and professional learning communities among teachers.
      • Assist in the recruitment and onboarding of new faculty members, ensuring they are well-versed in WSA's educational philosophy and IB framework.Community Engagement
        • Promote WSA's mission and values within the school community and beyond.
        • Oversee and coordinate parent education opportunities.
        • Foster partnerships with external organizations to enhance educational opportunities for students.Qualifications:
          • Master's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
          • Significant teaching experience, preferably within an IB framework. IB training and certification preferred.
          • Demonstrated leadership experience in curriculum development and instructional coaching preferably in an independent or private school setting.
          • Strong understanding of IB philosophy, standards, and assessment practices.
          • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
          • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.Compensation:The salary range for 1.0 FTE for this position is $70,000 to $79,000.
