Job Description BAE Systems is seeking an experienced
director-level strategist and chief engineer to join our Integrated
Defense Solutions team in an exciting program supporting the U.S.
Navy's next generation of strategic deterrence. Serving as our
Senior Director of Strategy and Engineering reporting into the
Senior Director of Operations, you will lead a multi-disciplinary
team of engineers, scientists, and technologists in developing our
strategic plan and ensuring the implementation of a well-planned
systems engineering approach to requirements definition,
architecture and interface definition, system integration,
verification, and test for current and future large-scale missile
systems. This is a unique opportunity to be part of the team

throughout the systems lifecycle.As Senior Director of Strategy,
you will:
- Develop and execute strategic plans that lead to delivered and
usable innovations.
- Conduct internal and external workshops to identify challenges
and propose innovative solutions.
- Lead and support discussions with the Government to validate
and prioritize innovations resulting in an Innovation and
Technology Insertion Strategy, Roadmap, and Tactical Execution
Plan.
- Manage local investment budget of $4m - $5m annually.
- Hire and manage staff to execute investment initiatives.
Proactively reach out across the I&S sector and adjacent
sectors to identify collaboration and technology-sharing
opportunities.
- Develop and deploy AI/ML-enabled and digital engineering
capabilities to streamline engineering activities, improve quality,
and reduce labor and timelines associated with engineering
processes ("AI/ML for Engineering").
- Assemble, lead, and manage high-performance teams focused on
developing innovative solutions to complex mission and business
challenges. Perform hiring and personnel management for Innovations
and Technology Insertion department staff.
- Provide support and advocacy for adoption of digital
engineering capabilities and tailor digital engineering processes
to fit the program/mission environment, constraints, and delivery
schedule.
- Provide leadership as the primary point of command and control
for AI/ML capabilities in the SSP program. This includes overseeing
"AI/ML for Engineering," "Engineering for AI/ML," AI/ML technology
leadership, and guiding AI/ML investments.
- Provide support and advocacy for adoption of Agile management
techniques and Agile Engineering techniques on the SPP program.
Tailor Agile processes to fit the SSP program environment,
constraints, and delivery schedule.
- Lead AI/ML and digital engineering working groups, investments,
and training activities that directly support the SSP program and,
when feasible, the IDS Business Unit and I&S sector.
- As requested by leadership, support I&S, IDS, and SSP in
capturing new business by developing and executing strategic plans,
engaging in customer and opportunity shaping, and providing
engineering and technical data to capture teams.As a Chief
Engineer, you will:
- Lead the technical performance of systems engineering,
integration, and test functions in support of advanced programs
under the direction, and in-collaboration with, Program
leadership.
- In this role, you will provide engineering and scientific
leadership in performing technical analysis, trade studies,
research, development, and test and evaluation to lead system
definition and realization activities, resolve issues, and make
recommendations regarding enhanced capabilities.
- Under your technical leadership, a large team of engineers and
scientist (500+) will utilize digital engineering and model-based
systems engineering to perform operational concept development,
feasibility studies, design, development and evaluation of hardware
and software for new designs, modifications, and upgrades of Naval
weapon systems and system of systems.
- Provide sound engineering principles and disciplined guidance
to ensure successful execution of technical plans and goals while
communicating effectively with internal and external management and
senior-level customer representatives concerning operational and
design decisions, technical risk identification and mitigation,
definition and achievement of requirements, and overall end-to-end
systems engineering process definition and oversight that results
in successful definition and realization of large-scale
systems.
- Provide leadership for external AI/ML and Systems Engineering
working groups, government-sponsored events, and workshops (e.g.,
NDIA, INCOSE).
- As requested by leadership, assist I&S and IDS personnel
with developing and delivering RFIs, whitepapers, and
proposals.
- As requested by leadership, assist I&S and IDS personnel
with Digital Engineering, Model-Based Engineering, Model-Based
Systems Engineering, and Agile Systems Engineering innovations and
challenges. Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Master of Science in Engineering and minimum of 15 years of
related experience
- Possess an active DoD Top Secret clearance with ability to
obtain SCI designation
- Proven experience successfully leading system engineering
activities on highly complex programs as a Chief Engineer
- Proven experience developing and successfully executing short-
and long-term strategic plans that leverage cutting edge
technology
- Demonstrated success partnering with customers to understand
critical challenges, shape customer requirements, develop
innovative solutions, and manage execution of solutions through
implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead multi-disciplinary
teams in complex strategic planning and systems engineering.
- Demonstrated success leading major digital engineering
transformation initiatives across a 500+ person organizations
- Experience conducting technology research, analysis, trade
studies, solution down-selection, development, and delivery related
to Digital Engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering, and
AI/ML.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills with
demonstrated experience communicating with executive and senior
customer leadership
- Experience developing and presenting material for external
industry working groups, events, and conferencesPay
InformationFull-Time Salary Range: $164000 - $278800Please note:
This range is based on our market pay structures. However,
individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors
including, but not limited to: business considerations, local
market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate
qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience. Employee
